On November 29, 2024, SAIC Innovation Research and Development Institute released the second generation of magnesium alloy electric drive housing independently developed by SAIC as well as the three-in-one electric drive assembly system applying this solution. SINYUANZM, as the production supplier of SAIC’s first-generation and brand-new-generation magnesium alloy semi-solid electric drive housings, was invited to attend this release event.

 

 Magnesium alloy, known as the “21st century green engineering material”, SAIC’s second-generation magnesium alloy electric drive housing accurately controls the advantages of the new magnesium alloy material to achieve the leading lightweight design goal.

SAIC’s first-generation magnesium alloy electric drive system has been applied to the ZhiJi brand cars in 2022, which has a good weight reduction effect compared with traditional aluminum alloy materials, and the performance of the whole set of electric drive assembly is excellent with the support of the magnesium alloy, and SINYUANZM has been awarded the “International Magnesium Association Outstanding Automotive Casting Award for the Year of 2024” together with SAIC.

 


The second generation of magnesium alloy electrically driven castings, SINYUANZM is produced by semi-solid state process. By controlling the conditions of the metal in the solidification process, a uniform and fine spherical incipient phase is formed, and this slurry has a better fluidity under the action of external force, avoiding cracks, deformation, gas-shrinkage holes, etc. during casting, thus improving the quality of molding; at the same time, semi-solid process does not require the use of melting furnaces and protective gases, and the energy consumption and carbon emissions are significantly reduced. Compared with high die casting, its mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, densification, etc. have been significantly improved.
